FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Bioenergetic Therapy

What is Bioenergetic Analysis? Bioenergetic Analysis is a body-centred psychotherapy that recognizes how our emotions, thoughts, and physical patterns are interconnected. Through movement, breath work, and talk therapy, we explore how tension held in the body affects your emotional well-being—and how releasing that tension can help you feel more grounded, authentic, and alive.

Why should I choose Bioenergetics? Bioenergetics offers something unique: it helps you understand the language your body speaks. Unlike traditional talk therapy alone, this approach deepens your awareness of how emotions live in your body—tension in your shoulders, tightness in your chest, butterflies in your stomach. This knowledge can help you feel more at peace with yourself and respond to life’s challenges with greater ease.

What kinds of issues can Bioenergetic therapy help with? Research and clinical experience show that Bioenergetic Analysis can be effective for:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Low self-esteem and identity issues
  • Chronic stress and burnout
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Anger management
  • Eating disorders and body image concerns
  • Grief and loss

Is Bioenergetics backed by research? Yes. Studies have shown that body-oriented therapies like Bioenergetics can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma while improving emotional regulation and overall well-being. The mind-body connection is increasingly recognised in mental health research, with evidence supporting approaches that integrate physical awareness with psychological healing.

What happens in a typical session? Sessions may include gentle movement exercises, breathwork, grounding techniques, and conversation. You’ll always work at your own pace in a safe, supportive environment. Some sessions focus more on movement; others on processing emotions and experiences. The approach is tailored to what you need.

Do I need to be physically fit? Not at all. Bioenergetic exercises are gentle and accessible to all fitness levels. This isn’t about performance—it’s about awareness. You’ll be invited to explore movements that feel right for your body, with modifications always available.

Can I afford this? Therapy is an investment in your well-being, and many clients find it’s one of the most valuable investments they make. Think about what you spend on things that provide temporary relief versus lasting change. You’re worth it. I also offer both group classes (a more affordable option) and individual sessions, so there are options to fit different budgets.

Do I have time for this? I understand busy lives. Group classes run once or twice weekly for one hour, and individual sessions can be scheduled at times that work for you. Many clients find that dedicating even one hour a week creates positive ripple effects throughout their entire week—more calm, better sleep, clearer thinking.

What’s the difference between group classes and individual therapy? Group classes focus on movement, body awareness, and community support—they’re a wonderful way to explore Bioenergetics in an accessible format. Individual therapy sessions offer personalised attention and go deeper into your specific emotional patterns, history, and goals. Many clients benefit from both.

How long does therapy take? This varies for everyone. Some people find relief in a few months; others prefer ongoing support. We’ll discuss your goals and check in regularly about your progress. There’s no pressure—you decide what feels right for you.

Is this approach right for me? If you’re curious about the mind-body connection, feel disconnected from your emotions or physical sensations, or haven’t found relief through talk therapy alone, Bioenergetics may be a good fit. The best way to know is to reach out and have a conversation—I’m happy to answer any questions and help you decide if this approach resonates with you.
